About LeSauteur, Claude

A Quebec painter of immense sensitivity, Claude Le Sauteur has created a body of work that bridges modernism and tradition. Deeply attached to the Charlevoix region, he has established himself as one of the public’s most beloved artists, renowned for his evocative landscapes and compositions of great formal rigor.

Le Sauteur’s philosophy is rooted in the idea of belonging. For him, man and his environment are one and the same. His aesthetic shuns chaos and violence in favor of order, serenity, and light. He seeks to paint not the wild landscape, but the cultivated landscape, sculpted by human labor, seeing in it a form of geometric poetry and quiet dignity.

His paintings are constructed like architecture, with clean lines and simplified volumes that sometimes recall the style of high-level illustrators. His figures are often integrated into the landscape in an organic way, symbolizing a relationship of peace and respect with the land. A master of contrasts, he used a crisp light that defines forms and lends a sense of almost crystalline purity to his rural scenes.

Over the years, he became the iconic painter of the Charlevoix region, whose hills and houses he glorified with unwavering devotion. His talent as a draftsman led him to collaborate on prestigious projects, notably with Maison Orphée and on cultural awareness campaigns.
