Rebry, Gaston

1933-2007

Quebec painter, Paysage forestier

Originally from Belgium and a former professional cyclist, Gaston Rebry found his true artistic soul in Quebec’s Mauricie region. His aesthetic is one of modern Impressionism, where the boreal forest is magnified by a crisp, ethereal light. His style is characterized by shimmering reflections on water and an ability to capture the complex textures of the forest floor with almost tactile precision.

His artistic philosophy centers on contemplation and harmony. For Rebry, nature was a sanctuary of peace. He did not seek to document the landscape scientifically but rather to translate its emotional atmosphere. Through compositions often devoid of human presence, he invites silence, celebrating the wild beauty and fragile balance of Quebec’s ecosystems.
