About Meisler, Frank

A visionary artist whose life was deeply marked by history, Frank Meisler developed a unique aesthetic of figurative, baroque, and kinetic sculpture. His style is distinguished by the exclusive use of precious alloys like bronze, pewter, gold, and silver, meticulously polished or patinated to create sharp textural contrasts. Meisler’s defining signature lies in the mechanical and modular nature of his pieces: many of his sculptures open, swivel, or reveal hidden compartments concealed beneath heavy metallic hinges. Whether depicting biblical figures, stylized animals, or intricate cityscapes, his forms carry powerful lines, miniature-like attention to detail, and a subtle touch of caricature.

His artistic philosophy centered on the duality of the human condition and memory. For Meisler, who was saved as a child by the Kindertransport during World War II, art was a mechanism to rebuild a fractured world. His philosophy rested on the idea that the past and present must interact dynamically: the rigidity of the bronze is deliberately broken by mobile components, reminding the viewer that history is never static. Settled in the historic quarter of Jaffa since the 1960s, he infused a deeply spiritual and humanistic dimension into his creations, bridging the structural discipline of his architectural background with a universally celebrated kinetic poetry.
