Son of the sculptor Louis-Philippe Hébert, Adrien Hébert broke away from the landscape tradition to forge an aesthetic of urban dynamism. His style is distinguished by structural rigor and a keen interest in industrial lines. His most famous works depict the Port of Montreal, grain elevators, and crowded streets, where he used bold perspectives and light contrasts to magnify the geometry of machinery and the bustle of the crowd.

His artistic philosophy centered on the celebration of progress. Unlike his contemporaries who sought the soul of Quebec in the countryside, Hébert believed that modernity resided in steel, concrete, and speed. For him, the city was a living organism, fascinating in its power and technical complexity. His philosophy rested on an almost architectural observation of the world, making him one of the first artists to capture Montreal’s industrial momentum with such clarity and modernist fervor.
